SOA for Dummies

After reading a pdf of SOA for Dumies from IBM I have some conclusions below:

  • When trying to build SOA, please gather as much information about Service Oriented Architecture
  • Communicate about SOA to your Team, included Team/Department who is the owner of the business process of the system
  • Don’t try to build the ocean, better start build SOA from the small application  that doable in the short period of time so your Team can take a look how SOA works and what is the advantage of it
  • If you want to speed up the SOA development and its implementation, here the experts who have lot of experience in SOA implementation

SOA, another buzzword

SOA = Service Oriented Architecture, is approach to :

1. Rationalize Enterprise Integration

“Enterprise” has a lot of business process to handle their daily operation spread from IT Department, HRD Department, Finance Department, …Department. One of the simplest way to integrate all of existing/new business process is by implementing SOA.

2. Enable new breeds of process driven applications

“Enterprise” have to take an effective and efficient way to improve their business process. By implementing SOA, a company should only focus on the business process. They should be able to create/modify the business process easily and is short period of time.

3. Re-use existing service to build new value

Existing service can be used to build new other services with new added value, e.g:

mainframe credit check + CRM + web portal + extra logic
= new online instant credit check
